This week we have welcomed Mr Lea to our school. He sent a letter to all the children introducing himself !
Juniper class have been learning about structures and became bridge engineers for an afternoon. They learnt that triangles made bridges strong and were challenged to see how many vehicles their bridges could hold.
Juniper welcomed parents into a share afternoon. We enjoyed creating some weather experiments linked to our geography learning. The children were all purposeful in their learning - linking to our Learning PI characteristics
Huge Thank You to Mr and Mrs Rich-Gray (Rich-Gray Funerals) for their kind donation of an Easter Egg for every pupil at Mendham Primary School.
Children from Mendham sang as My Choir Rocks with 35 others from Lowestoft and Ipswich then in the finale with everybody who was there.
Sycamore's parent/carer engagement focused on 'Learning PI' this term. Parents joined the class and were informed about the development of the children's personal skills and characteristics. With it also being science week and the theme being 'connections' it was a great way for the children to build their skills with parents/carers and continue the learning from Sycamore class in a collaborative way. They were given the question 'Why does the Moon appear to change shape in the sky?' and were active in their learning by choosing their own imaginative and creative ways to present their work. The children were also curious and found out new information and knowledge about the Moon phases! Great work everyone!
A different world book day this year:instead of the usual dressing up (much to children’s horror and parents delight) each child in school became an author, illustrator, prop maker or actor.
In groups we collaborated and worked on stories including characters and magical objects that we had created ourselves.
Children then created the props and costumes they would need to tell their story.
Seedlings had their parents in on a nice cold day so that we could teach them how we are determined and resilient - by building dens adults we’re not allowed to help but just encourage with their voices.
Purposeful - by helping to begin to tidy and prepare our garden.
Independent thinkers and learners - by guiding children to be able to weave yarn around pine cones and sticks.
We also began to create weaving frames using sticks, by learning how to tie the sticks together.
Please enter an introduction STEM Extended Schools clubs have been busy this week - they have been working collaboratively with purpose in finding a solution to the problem as they had a major Lego disaster Island Challenge. for your news story here.
Sycamore class had a fabulous day yesterday getting into the roles of being explorers! Their day began realising that the plane they had travelled on had crashed into the rainforest and they were stranded and needed to survive. First of all, they needed to contend with 'crossing the swamp' together, collecting any items of equipment that might be useful for building a shelter on the other side. They used the equipment to build shelters to protect themselves from the brutal storm that was incoming. To keep their energy levels up, they built a fire and made sweet flatbread! Unfortunately, their camp and the forest were to be destroyed by business developers, which meant in the afternoon the children had to research the effects of human impact on our environments. They created banners and signs to put up around their camps and gave great arguments! The day was filled with collaboration, team building, imagination and creativity, resourcefulness, determination and resilience and enjoyment! We look forward to the children's independent pieces of writing that will follow! Many thanks to Mrs Newton for her help throughout the day.
